AREC Environmental Group has provided industry-specific asbestos training for over 13 years. As of January 1, 2024, WorkSafeBC introduced standardized provincial requirements for asbestos training, certification, and licensing in B.C. Anyone involved in asbestos abatement—including workers, supervisors, surveyors, and those transporting or disposing of asbestos waste—must complete a WorkSafeBC-recognized course to be certified for their role.

& Certification
To arrange a training session or inquire about availability, please contact 778‑351‑1966 or email training@arecenvironmental.com.
Please note that we are no longer offering regularly scheduled training classes. All courses are now available on a by-request basis only, with a minimum of four (4) participants required per session.
Below is a general outline of the four certification levels WorkSafeBC recognizes and oversees. Training requirements continue to evolve as the program is refined, and we stay current with all updates.
Level 1
Foundational Awareness
Level 1 is for people involved in the transportation and disposal of asbestos‑containing waste. It covers asbestos basics, hazards, and safe transport/disposal procedures. This course is also recommended for anyone needing general awareness of asbestos work.
Level 2
Asbestos Safety
Level 2 is designed for workers conducting asbestos abatement. It builds on Level 1 and enables individuals to perform moderate‑ and high‑risk asbestos abatement under appropriate supervision. Core skills include building airtight containments, performing required abatement methods (e.g., glove bag), safe waste handling, and proper PPE/respirator use.
Level 3
Asbestos Safety Leader (Supervisor)
Level 3 is for supervisors and those responsible for health and safety on abatement sites. It includes Level 1 and 2 scope plus the ability to plan, oversee, and manage abatement projects. Core competencies include interpreting air monitoring results, developing safe work procedures, confirming required documentation (e.g., NOPs, hazmat surveys, waste records), and leading abatement teams.
Level S
Surveyor Safety
Level S is for those performing asbestos surveys and hazardous materials assessments. It covers surveying processes, sampling approaches, and identification of asbestos‑containing materials for hazmat surveys. This certification replaces the AHERA Building Inspector certificate in British Columbia.
